Can you add decor to any office space?

Thoughts that may be crossing your mind are ‘What should I decorate my office with’ or ‘How can I decorate my office space at work’  Well, the good news is you can decorate any space you like with whatever budget you have, however, obviously, if your office is in your home you can go all out and be as creative as you like, but even if your office is in a building in the city you can still add decor to personalise your space.

Let’s get the office space ready…

First things first…

Consider what office space you have

does your ‘work zone’ fit into one of these categories:

  • Professional office space – you see lots of clients it needs to be kept clean, tidy and minimal.
  • Small office space – have you got a small room that you don’t want to overcrowd with items or perhaps it needs to be refreshed to give the illusion of having more light and space.
  • Modern office – have you got a new modern space that needs some personality added.
  • Home office – is your office within your home and are you looking to create a productive space that you love been in and enjoy working in.

Start with a declutter and clean

Now is the time to give your office space a much needed clean up. Declutter, get rid of excess paper, scan paperwork and then shred it, dust walls, skirting, and window sills and give the space a deep clean. Doing these few initial chores are going to really make a difference to your office space.

Next, if you have a home office (or an office space you can paint) now is the time you may want to think about adding a splash of fresh colour to the walls. Cool calm colours are often the go-to as it helps keep the mind from feeling cluttered.

We love Resene Rice Cake and Resene Duck Egg Blue or  Resene Sea Fog They can make an office space look and feel light and airy. What are your go-to office colours?

Now the fun begins! You can start placing all your existing items back into the room and on Shelves.

If you need some help on how to style a bookshelf Young, House Love has a great article that you can find here.

The first item you can add to a room is a rug

A rug can add an element of texture to a room as well as add a pop of colour depending on what you choose. In winter they can provide a cosy and warm feel. Our recommendations include:

Bookshelves

If you have space then you will want to consider adding bookshelves like this Vintage Book Shelf.

Vase

Every office room needs a good looking, sturdy vase for when you receive beautiful flowers! Check out your local home decor stores to find one that you love. Another great place to look at is 2nd hand shops as you will often find something unique at an affordable price.

Black and White prints

Don’t forget about the walls. Add some style and personality to your office walls with black and white prints.  These can be of your family, favourite places or simply an abstract image.

Artwork

If black and white prints are not your thing, then perhaps add some colour with a few pieces of artwork. Check your local 2nd hand shop to find some ‘one of a kind’ pieces.  Wall Art is big in office spaces as it can add a splash of colour – one of our favourites is this abstract painting! This will add a element of class and sophistication to your office space.

Plants

These green leafy things are a must in any office space. Plants provide that feeling of bringing the outside in. Real plants can help purify the air and they also had a splash of colour to the room as well.

If you don’t think you can manage a real plant, don’t worry, as these days you can pick up artificial plants that look just like the real thing. This Monstera would suit a home office.

Who doesn’t want a fiddle leaf tree in their office space – ahh yes, please!! Just remember to fluff the trees out once you get them back to the office.

Matching magazine files holders

Add some colour to your shelves with a set of matching magazine file holders. These are perfect for storing your favourite books in or hiding paperwork in.  You can get them in a range of colours to suit any professional office room space.

Clock

All office spaces need a clock to keep you working on your schedule. If you have the wall space a beautiful one like this Large Wall Clock will add style and personality to a room. If you prefer a tabletop clock then a clean and simple one like this digital alarm clock may be the perfect fit.

Lamps

All offices need great lighting, that’s why you may like to consider a lamp like the LED desk lamp. The lamp comes with a USB charging port, 4 lighting modes and 5 brightness levels.
